A PSARA License is an official permit under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 that authorises a person or entity to operate a private security agency in India. The Act regulates the private security industry so that guards are trained, verified and supervised to prescribed standards.
Under Section 4, no one may carry on the business of a private security agency without a license from the state Controlling Authority (typically DGP or Commissioner of Police). The application is filed in Form P under the PSARA Rules 2006. The license is state-specific and valid for 5 years. Multi-state operations require a separate license in each state. Non-compliance can attract imprisonment up to 1 year and/or fine up to ₹25,000 under Section 14.
